Dutchy's® for Natural Control of Red Mites in Birds

Predatory mites are an effective and natural method for preventing and controlling blood mites in aviaries, cages, terrariums, or stalls. One package contains approximately 10 doses, with which you can treat approximately 10 m² preventatively or approximately 5 m² of already infested housing. The shelf life is a maximum of 7 days.

The Hypoaspis miles (Predatory Mites)

Hypoaspis miles are ground-dwelling predators with a broad prey spectrum, which also includes bird and blood mites. Therefore, they are ideal for use in terrariums, aviaries, chicken coops, etc., when biological control is desired.

Development from egg to sexually mature beneficial organism takes approximately 12 days at 25°C. One predatory mite consumes 5 blood mites per day and lays up to 3 eggs daily. The biological balance shifts in favor of predatory mites, but to the detriment of blood mites. Visible results occur within a few days. In many cases, blood mites are completely eradicated within a few weeks.

Should there be a very high initial infestation, we recommend a follow-up treatment with additional predatory mites after approximately 6 weeks. The predatory mite can starve for several weeks (in the absence of prey), making preventive use of these predatory mites possible.

In terrariums, too, the control of snake mites, spider mites (tarantulas are very often infested), or mites with Dutchy's® has proven effective.
