Contents: approx. 10,000 predatory mites
Hypoaspis miles (predatory mites) are very effective, ground-dwelling predators with a very broad prey spectrum, which also includes bird mites and blood mites. Therefore, they are ideally suited for use in terrariums, aviaries, chicken coops, etc., when the use of insecticides is not desired, and biological control is preferred.
The development from egg to sexually mature predatory mite takes approximately 12 days (at 25°C). The eggs and nymphs are white, while adult predatory mites are brown and up to 1 mm long. A single predatory mite consumes 5 blood mites per day and lays up to 3 eggs daily.
In this way, the biological balance shifts in favor of the predatory mites but to the detriment of the blood mites. Visible results are achieved after just a few days.
In many cases, the blood mites are completely eradicated within a few weeks. If there is a very high initial infestation, we recommend a follow-up treatment with additional predatory mites after approximately 6 weeks.
Predatory mites can survive for several weeks without food (if prey is scarce). Therefore, the preventative use of these predatory mites is possible.
Predatory mites have also proven very effective in controlling snake mites, spider mites (tarantulas are very often infested) or mites in terrariums.
