It is important to keep the material moist. Larvae and eggs can hardly survive on dried-out mats, making control less effective. Moisten the mats and wring them out. Find a quiet spot so the pile of bedding material cannot be disturbed by the mites. If necessary, cover the pile with a small bowl to prevent the mites from accessing it. However, ensure there is also space underneath the bowl, for example, by placing a small piece of wood or similar material under the rim. The predatory mites can then easily crawl out from underneath.
