Sulfur bloom is elemental sulfur obtained through sublimation and ground into a fine, light yellow powder. The traditional name comes from the flower-like crystal form that forms during sublimation.

As an element, it is a component of the amino acids methionine and cysteine and thus the structural protein keratin, from which skin, hair, coat, plumage, horn and hooves are built.
