Peas (Pisum sativum) belong to the subfamily of legumes within the family Fabaceae. Protein-rich peas have therefore been considered an important crop for humans and animals for thousands of years. The 3-12 cm long pods of legumes contain an average of 4-10 seeds, the actual edible peas, which come in different colours depending on the variety and ripeness: yellow peas, green peas, brownish peas and, more rarely, black peas.
Peas are rich in essential amino acids, such as cysteine, methionine, lysine, isoleucine, leucine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine. Peas are also rich in minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, magnesium, iron, manganese and copper.
Legumes, such as peas, can be used in homemade cooked food for parrots or mash.

Application

Application Notes: Yellow peas usually contain slightly more starch than green peas and are particularly favored by pigeon breeders as a feed component during breeding and racing seasons. They are well suited for inclusion in individual feeding plans.
