Dr. Brockamp Active Iron 500ml
Liquid supplementary feed for pigeons to increase the oxygen concentration in the blood
Iron, an essential component of the blood pigment hemoglobin, enables red blood cells to transport oxygen. Hemoglobin binds inhaled oxygen and carries it to the body's cells. Iron requirements are particularly high during periods of intense physical exertion, such as racing, breeding, and molting. In young pigeons, which increase their body weight more than a hundredfold in the first few weeks of life and consequently have to produce a large amount of blood and hemoglobin, iron anemia is one of the most common deficiency symptoms. The immediate consequence is a hemoglobin deficiency, which leads to an insufficient oxygen supply to the entire organism. Furthermore, in addition to impaired oxygen transport to the cells, other important metabolic processes are also inhibited.
Racing pigeons derive their energy for flight primarily from fat metabolism. Providing energy from fat metabolism requires significantly more oxygen than the carbohydrate metabolism predominantly used in humans. This illustrates the importance of a sufficiently high hemoglobin concentration in the blood for the pigeon. Energy in the form of fat, carbohydrates, and protein, as well as vitamins, minerals, and trace elements, are adequately available to the pigeon through a balanced diet. The presence of a sufficiently high oxygen concentration in the blood during a race thus becomes a decisive factor for performance, especially in endurance events.
Active iron promotes blood formation, specifically increasing the number of red blood cells and boosting hemoglobin levels. This raises the oxygen concentration in the blood and accelerates oxygen transport to the cells. This initially leads to improved fitness and training performance, and ultimately to a natural increase in competitive flying.
Given the current demands placed on modern racing pigeons, the iron requirement and iron supply absolutely must be re-evaluated, because even visually healthy pigeons can be significantly revitalized through regular iron supplementation.
Gastrointestinal disorders impair iron absorption. For example, insufficient gastric acidity, mucosal changes in the upper small intestine, or infestation with harmful bacteria can be contributing factors. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a healthy natural intestinal flora in racing pigeons. Furthermore, the bioavailability of iron in adult pigeons is reduced to approximately 10%, while young pigeons can utilize up to 90% of the iron from their feed. Strict attention must therefore be paid to adhering to a correspondingly high dosage.
1000 ml of active iron contains 22,000 mg of a specifically organically bound iron. This particular organically bound form of iron is absorbed and utilized best by the pigeon's body compared to other iron preparations.
Instructions for use: Active Iron should always be used when pigeons are subjected to particular physical demands. Especially during the racing season, Active Iron should be administered at least twice a week via the drinking water. Ideally, Active Iron should be given 2-3 times a week starting 3-4 weeks before the racing season to replenish the pigeons' iron stores early on. Depending on the level of physical exertion, it is recommended to add 5 ml of Active Iron to 1-2 liters of water or 1-2 kg of feed per day for 25 pigeons.
