They are fire-dried and bacteria-free.
They serve as a substitute for teeth in the animals' gizzard, aiding in the grinding of food. Without gizzard stones, the animals digest their food much less efficiently. These stones are not dissolved by stomach acid and therefore last longer than grit.
Feeding recommendation: The grit should be provided to the animals in a separate dish for free access. If outdoor space is limited or the animals are kept in an aviary, the grit can also be scattered in the open area to encourage their natural scratching and searching for minerals.
